Wiring Synthesis
Dialog Box
To access: Press Space Bar and enter Synthesis, or click the button on the Design Browser (Design tab).
Use this dialog box to run the actions for modular wiring synthesis and composite wiring synthesis.

Note
Full Synthesis, Modular Synthesis, Generate And Finish, and Finish Synthesis are default synthesis configurations. You can define your own configurations to appear on the dialog box. See Synthesis Configuration for more information about the concept.
A synthesis configuration dictates which synthesis actions are selected by default in the dialog box and whether the selection of an individual action is editable in the dialog box.

| Full Synthesis | Specifies that all of the steps necessary to complete composite wiring synthesis are run when you click Go. The steps run are: Update Harness Options Generate Physical Harness Levels Synthesize All Wiring Combine Identical Harness Levels |
| Modular Synthesis | Specifies that modular wiring synthesis runs when you click Go. See Modular Wiring Synthesis for information about the process. The steps run are: Update Harness Options Generate Abstract Harness Levels (if “Delete all Wiring” is selected, or you have not generated any) Synthesize All Wiring (if “Delete all Wiring” is selected, or you have not synthesized any) |
| Generate And Finish | Specifies that the steps necessary for generating the full set of buildable harness levels and synthesizing wiring for those levels are run when you click Go. The steps are: Generate Physical Harness Levels Synthesize All Wiring Combine Identical Harness Levels |
| Finish Synthesis | Specifies that the steps necessary for completing wiring synthesis on the existing harness levels are run when you click Go. The steps are: Synthesize All Wiring Combine Identical Harness Levels |
| Custom Settings | Specifies that you have manually modified the steps to be run. Expands the Advanced section that displays the individual steps that you can run and the additional settings for customizing wiring synthesis. |
| Delete all Harness Levels and Configurations | Specifies whether harness levels and configurations generated during previous synthesis runs are deleted (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go. When you select this, Delete all Wiring is also selected. When you run multi-user mode, this option is called “Delete All Wiring and Harness Levels from Locked Harnesses” as you can only use this functionality on harnesses that you have locked. Composite wiring synthesis can proceed even if there are some harnesses unlocked. It is run as though you are running in single user mode and have a complete design lock. After the process is finished, the system keeps the wiring synthesis changes only for the harnesses that you have locked. Unlocked harnesses keep their original wiring. Signals in an inline can short together during wiring synthesis but you can edit the signal map for inline cavities to correct this. See Mapping a Signal Between Cavities on the Halves of an Inline Connector for more information about editing a signal map. |
| Clear Promoted Options | Specifies whether previously promoted options and giveaway options are deleted (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go. When you select this, “Delete all Harness Levels and Configurations” and “Delete all Wiring” are also selected. |
| Delete all Wiring | Specifies whether composite wiring from previous synthesis runs is deleted (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go. |
| Advanced | Expands to display the list of actions that you can run when you click Go and the settings that you can use to customize wiring synthesis. |
| Update Harness Options | For Modular Wiring Synthesis, this action is selected by default and cannot be unselected. The system does the following: Identifies the options that directly affect each harness and promotes them to the harnesses accordingly. Generates abstract wiring and uses this to identify and promote pass-through options to harnesses. For Composite Wiring Synthesis, the system does the following when this action is selected: Identifies the options that directly affect each harness and promotes them to the harnesses accordingly. Identifies and promotes pass-through options to harnesses based on abstract wiring that would have been generated if Modular Wiring Synthesis was run again. Removes pre-existing harness options that were not found in the above two steps from harnesses. |
| Generate Abstract Harness Levels | Enabled only if you have selected Modular Synthesis. Specifies whether the system does the following (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go: Re-generates a set of abstract harness levels, typically one per vehicle model. |
| Generate Physical Harness Levels | Specifies whether the system does the following (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go: Re-generates the full set of buildable harness levels, adhering to the vehicle model definitions and the option relationships. You can view these levels through the Define Harness Levels Dialog Box for each harness. If you have specified giveaway options, these are taken into account when generating the depopulated harness levels. Note A ‘Preserve abstract wiring’ project preference controls the behavior of this action with regard to abstract wiring. If the preference is not selected (default), the action will remove abstract wiring that is not applicable to any physical level. If the preference is selected, the action preserves abstract wiring. It will not delete it. |
| Synthesize All Wiring | Specifies whether the system does the following (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go: Re-creates all the vehicle configurations. Routes all logical signals along the topological bundles of the vehicle configurations. Creates the wires along which the signals travel and creates splices where necessary in all of the harness levels. When doing this, the system re-uses as much wiring as possible in each configuration. Generates option expressions for the wires and shields (not multicores) that are synthesized, even if a wire is present in all harness levels. Generates a module code for each wire and shield. The generated module codes match the option expressions for the wires. However, module codes must not exceed 30 characters so new, unique module codes are generated when an option expression is too long. To ensure consistency, the mapping of codes is taken from existing wiring before new option expressions and module codes are generated. When multiple existing wires have the same option expression but different module codes, the system selects just one of the module codes. |
| Combine Identical Harness Levels | Specifies whether the system does the following (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go: Combines harness levels that have identical wiring contents, but only when: No additional wires become applicable for the combined harness level No wires become unapplicable for the combined harness level Removes harness levels containing no wiring See Combine Identical Harness Levels for an example and full explanation of the operations. Note If you do not want a harness level to be combined, you should give it a part number. |
| Stop process when Harness Levels reach | Specifies whether the number of generated harness levels per harness is limited (selected) or not (unselected). Enter the maximum number of harness levels per harness in the box below this option. If you do not specify a limit or the limit is more than a thousand, composite wiring synthesis may not complete. |
| Run Complexity Report | Specifies whether a complexity report is generated and displayed in the Output Window (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go. The complexity report runs in conjunction with the steps: Update Harness Options and Generate Physical Harness Levels. For each step, the report lists the most complex harnesses, the options affecting each harness and the most complex vehicle models affecting the harness. |
| Combine Wires/Multicores | If you have set ‘Combine Wires at Cavity’ or ‘ Combine Physical Multicores’ constraints on connectors, slots, or the design, the system combines the appropriate wires and multicores at the cavities matching the constraints. See Setting a Constraint to Combine Wires at a Cavity and Automatic Combination of Physical Multicores During Wiring Synthesis. |
| Generate Bypass Wiring | Specifies whether the system does the following (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go: For Composite Wiring Synthesis: If, in any harness level, a splice is connected to just two wires, the system replaces the splice and wires in that level with a single bypass wire (that has a read-only Bypass attribute). For Modular Wiring Synthesis: The system uses options and their relationships to determine when a bypass wire is required. If an option is optional, MWS considers what happens if it is not there as one of the possible cases where a bypass wire may be required. See Abstract Bypass Wiring in Modular Wiring Synthesis for some examples. This process does not affect shield conductors. You cannot add a splice to the bypass wires. Also, you can use a “Create Bypass Wiring” constraint to control whether the generation of a bypass wire is allowed for a splice or a signal with a particular property or attribute. Note Where signals are combined at a splice, wiring synthesis can generate bypass wiring that bypasses the splice used to combine wiring in conditions where a bypass wire is required. See Bypass Wiring for Combined Signals at a Splice. This option is available both for Composite Wiring Synthesis and Modular Wiring Synthesis but is not selected by default. |
| Preserve Bypass Wiring | Enabled only when running Modular Wiring Synthesis (MWS). Select this if you want to preserve bypass wires that have been generated in previous composite wiring synthesis runs. This is selected automatically if the system detects that there are one or more bypass wires with physical harness levels. If there are no bypass wires or only bypass wires without physical harness levels, the system does not select it automatically. Note When you run MWS with this option selected, the preserved bypass wires will not be visible in the application when synthesis is complete, but they have been saved in the background. When you again run CWS with “Generate Bypass Wiring”, the preserved bypass wires will be re-used if possible and become visible in the Design Browser (Design tab). Additional bypass wires are also generated if required. |
| Re-Synthesize Prototype Signals | Some changes to prototype designs and constraints are not honored by default during synthesis. If a signal or logical multicore is fully routed then synthesis does not change the related wiring and does not check for consistency with the prototype. This can lead to synthesized wiring not matching prototype wiring as follows: Conductors in the Capital Systems Integrator design do not match any prototype conductors. Conductors in the prototype design do not have a matching synthesised conductor in the Capital Systems Integrator design. A conductor has an option expression in the Capital Systems Integrator design that does not match the applied prototype’s option expression. Wiring with attributes/properties in the Capital Systems Integrator design do not match the attributes/properties of the matching wiring in the applied prototype design. Such cases are identified by running the ‘Wiring does not match prototype’ design rule check (see "Capital Systems Integrator - Design Assistant DRCs" in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide). Select this Re-Synthesize Prototype Signals option if you want synthesis to fix such issues by checking fully routed wiring against the prototype. Synthesis does not change the wiring if it is consistent with the prototype. If it is inconsistent, then synthesis deletes the wiring and re-synthesizes it. Note Synthesis may run noticeably slower if you select this option when running incremental synthesis on many fully routed signals. Attributes that have a blank or default value in the prototype but a different value on the synthesized wires are handled in a special way. These attribute values are not overwritten. That means, you can define such things as CSA, color, and so on for the synthesized wires and not for the prototype wires and the values on the synthesized wires are retained. If you do not select this, synthesis will not update the existing wiring for fully-routed prototype signals and will not fix such issues. By default, this is unselected for Modular Wiring Synthesis and Composite Wiring Synthesis. |
| Generate Vehicle Configurations | Specifies whether the system generates vehicle configurations for the design (selected) or not (unselected) when you click Go. When you select this, you must select one of the following: Maximum Complexity Only The system generates just the max-complexity vehicle configurations. Full The system generates all possible vehicle configurations. Note that this has no impact on synthesis. This only affects the vehicle configurations that are created to save you having to generate some manually. Synthesis always generates its own set of configurations completely independently of this setting. |
