Adding / Modifying / Deleting a Net

You can add, modify, and delete nets on a diagram.

Restrictions and Limitations

• You cannot disconnect a net from a Highway junction. If you drag a net end at a Highway junction, the net and Highway stretch to reposition the joint.

Procedure

Determine the action you want to take:

If you want to...	Do the following:
Add a net	Press Space Bar and enter Add Net. The cursor changes to . Click to place the first end of the net. Click where you want each section to end, to define sections of the net. Double-click, or click and then right-click and select Commit, to place the end point of the net. Note When placing a net, if you hover over a pin on a device or connector, a circle is displayed around the pin to indicate that it will connect to the pin. When you connect a conductor to a pin, the diamond around the pin disappears indicating that the conductor is connected. You can connect more than one net to each pin. You cannot connect a net to a wire. You cannot connect a net to a pin on a splice. Tip To limit the net to only horizontal and vertical sections, use Orthogonal Routing. See Using Orthogonal Routing. If you are using Auto-route Net, you only need to place the start and the end points of the net and the intermediate sections are created automatically. See Auto-Routing of Nets. Move a section of a net	Position the cursor over the section of net. The section of net is highlighted and the cursor changes to . Click and drag the section of net. Connected objects move to maintain connectivity. Note If you move the end of a net to a pin on a device or connector it will connect to the pin. If you move the end of a net to a position on a device or connector at which a pin can be placed, but at which no pin currently exists, a pin will be added at that position and the net will connect automatically.
Resize a section of a net	Position the cursor over an end of the section of net. The section of net is highlighted and the cursor changes to . Click and drag the end of the section of net. Connected objects move to maintain connectivity. Note If you drag the end of a net to a pin on a device or connector it will connect automatically.
Disconnect a net	Hover the cursor close to the end of the net to disconnect. The cursor changes to . Click and drag the net or end of the net. The cursor changes to . Drop the net onto the required location. (Optional) Use the Move End action to disconnect the net. Note If you place the end on a pin on a device or connector, it will connect automatically. If you place the end on another net, the two nets are merged together. See also Merging Nets.
Delete a section of a net	Either: Select the section of net on the diagram: Press Space Bar and enter Delete, and then select Home - > Delete from the Search Ribbon dropdown list. Right-click the net in the Design Browser and select Delete. Right-click the section of net on the diagram and select Delete. Note If you delete a section of net that is not one of the ends of the net, the net becomes a design-wide object. See Design-Wide Objects.
