Manage Connections Dialog Box

To access: Right-click a device, plug, or jack and select Manage Connections. Alternatively, select a device, plug, or jack:

• Click the Manage Connections button () on the Automate ribbon.

• Press Space Bar and enter Manage Connections.

• Press Shift+M.

Used to interactively modify which conductors connect to which pins of a device, plug, or jack.

Objects

Field	Description
Table	Used to move conductors and re-assign pins. For objects with an associated symbol the pin selected in the table is cross‑highlighted in the Symbol View, providing matching cavity datums have been specified on the symbol. In the table you can: View pin and conductor property and attribute values. Filter and sort rows. Hide and show columns. There are several ways you can filter out table rows. See “Filter Popup” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.
Un-named column	Displays a pin icon. This column cannot be hidden or removed.
Pin Name	Displays the Pin Name. This column cannot be hidden or removed. Double-click or press Enter in a Pin Name cell to open a dropdown list displaying all pin names for the connector. Select a different pin name to move or swap connections. Permitted pin names are based on their availability, through write access or shared status.
Conductor Name	Displays the Conductor Name. This column cannot be hidden or removed. You can click and drag conductor names to different pin positions to move or swap connections.
Other Column Headers	You can customize the table by adding multiple other attribute and property columns using the Add button as described below.
Add	Click to add columns to the table. Choose from Pin, Conductor, and Multicore attributes and properties. Selecting Pin or Conductor displays two further attributes: For pins: Reservation Type Displayed for shared objects only. Displays the Reservation Status of the pin: Automatic, Reserved or Unrestricted. For conductors: Destination Displays the object and pin that the other end of the conductor is connected to.
Symbol View	Displayed only for objects that have an associated symbol. Displays a zoom-able view of the associated symbol. If the object has multiple symbols associated you can select an alternative one from the Symbol dropdown list. Modular connector symbols show the face views of the connector, modular inserts, and pins defined in Capital Component Manager. If cavity datums have been specified on the symbol, when cavities are selected on the symbol matching pins are cross-highlighted in the table. For devices with library parts with footprint definitions Footprint is also displayed.
Allow changes to pins in other designs	Select to edit pins and manage connectivity contained within other designs.
Zoom to connector with selected pins	With a single row selected in the table, click to navigate to the selected pin if it is placed on one of the currently open diagrams. Unavailable if no pin is selected in the table.

Usage Notes

Considerations

• The Manage Connections action may be unavailable because of a domain restriction on the associated shared object definitions. If you require access to this action on an object, contact your system administrator. See “Domains” in the Capital Access Manager User Guide for access restrictions because of Domain settings.

• You can only use the Manage Connections functionality in Single‑User Access mode.

• If there is an active build list, the Manage Connections functionality is unavailable for instances of shared objects in designs outside the active build list. If you open the dialog box for such a shared object, “Read only - Current design is not part of active build list” is displayed in the dialog box header.

• Changes made in this dialog box to a plug or jack that is one side of an inline also affect the other side of the inline. For example, if you change which pin a conductor is connected to, the change is mirrored on the matching conductor on the other side.

• If you use this dialog box to manage the connections of a shared object and select the “Allow changes to pins in other designs” option, instances of the shared object in designs other than the current design are also modified. If the “Allow changes to pins in other designs” option is selected, changes cannot be undone when you click OK.

• • There is no conductor at this pin.
• • The conductor at this pin has been swapped or moved from a different pin.
• • This is the currently selected pin, and the conductor at this pin has been swapped or moved from a different pin.
• • This pin has at least one conductor connected to it.

Move

and Swap Conductors

Click and drag conductors onto pin names to move them. A tooltip, as shown in Figure 222, displays as you move a conductor to indicate valid locations.

Click and drag conductors onto other conductors to swap their positions. A tooltip, as shown in Figure 223, displays as you move them to indicate valid locations.

Editing

Shared Connectivity Across Designs

• You cannot move conductors to automatic pins in other designs.

• You cannot move conductors to pins which are not reserved to the diagram the conductor resides in.

• You can swap an automatically reserved pin in one design with another automatically reserved pin in another design.

• You can move conductors to unrestricted pins.

• With an active build list set, the dialog box only displays the pins in the designs contained within that build list. With no active build list, all designs and their pins are shown.

• If a shared inline exists in designs which are read-only, because the design is under edit or in a released state, the pins contained within the connector will be dimmed and read‑only, even if the “Allow changes to pins in other designs” check box is selected.
