Simulating Production Technical Variations from the PM Module Explorer
When you have created a candidate Production Module, you can run a simulation process that will automatically show you how many variants of a module will be created, based on the content of the Module Explorer dialog box.
Note
This process allows you to run a simulation on the current content of the Module Explorer dialog box.
See Simulating Production Technical Variations from the PM Codes Tab for information on running a simulation on one or more existing PM Codes.
You can configure the simulation to be based either on the module codes assigned to the wires or the configuration of the registered derivatives.
To run the simulation process using Variant Generation by Derivative, you must select the Derivative radio button at Step 1.
This video demonstrates the flow.
Prerequisites
- You have added the required objects for your candidate production module into the Module Explorer Dialog Box. See “Adding Content to the PM Browser” to create a candidate production module.
Procedure
To run the simulation based on module codes, select the Module Code radio button and click the Simulate Variations button.
The Technical Variations tab opens in the console. It displays the number of variants and their content, which the simulation process calculated. Figure 441: Simulation Results in the Technical Variations TabIf results of the simulation and the content of your candidate production module are satisfactory, you can skip to Step 4.
If the results and content of the candidate production module are not satisfactory, you can re-work the content, see “Adding Content to the PM Browser”, and run simulation again. You can repeat this process multiple times until the number of variants created is acceptable.
When all the results are satisfactory you can do one of the following:
Copy the content to the scratchpad (see Using the Module Scratchpad), to hold the content as “work in progress”.
Select all the rows in the PM Explorer and click and drag and drop them onto “white space” on the PM browser.
The New Module Code Dialog Box opens. Enter the required name and description for the new PM module and click OK.
Select all the rows in the PM Explorer and click and drag and drop them onto an existing folder in the PM browser.
Results
PM modules are created containing the candidate production module content.
Repeat the steps until you have created all the production modules needed. You can then move on to “Generating Production Technical Variations”.
